This Champions League is back this midweek for Gameweek 4. This week, teams will be playing against the same teams they played against last time out in Gameweek 3. That means Liverpool will be plotting revenge over Real Madrid, Arsenal will look to build on their dramatic defeat of Anderlecht, Manchester City are at home to CSKA Moscow and Chelsea will look to thump Maribor once again.
It really is crunch time for many teams looking to reach the magic ten point mark that will generally get you out of the group stages. For betting, a team’s domestic form is often a totally different ball game to their European form – Borussia Dortmund this season are a great example. Easy Winner – 10/11 (Coral)
- Bayern Munich v Roma, Bayern to win (1/4) – Bayern Munich came, saw and conquered on their visit to Rome a couple of weeks ago. Pep’s men absolutely destroyed Roma 7-1 and will be looking for a home win to sew up qualification at 1/4.
- Real Madrid v Liverpool, Real to win (1/4) – This season has shown up Liverpool’s lack of squad depth, and Real Madrid gave them an absolute lesson in Champions League football when they visited Anfield last time out. The Galacticos are 1/4 to win at home here.
- Shakhtar Donetsk v BATE Borisov, Shakhtar to win (2/9) – Shakhtar scored seven without reply when they visited Borisov, with striker Luiz Adriano scoring five, a joint Champions League record. Shaktar are 2/9 to win here at home and you really wouldn’t bet against another big win.
Medium Risk – 5/1 (Bet365)
- PSG v APOEL Nicosia, PSG to win by more than 1 (8/13) – PSG are unbeaten in 30 matches at home in European football (Champions League and Europa League), while APOEL have never won away in the Champions League. The French champions will fancy filling their boots, with PSG and a -1 handicap priced at 8/13 with Bet365.
- Maribor v Chelsea, Chelsea to win to nil (11/10) – Mourinho’s Chelsea went goal crazy in the first tie between these teams. However, away from home they like to play more cagily, and Maribor’s attackers will do very well to score against such a strong and organised defence. Chelsea to win to nil looks good at 11/10.
- Basel v Ludogorets Razgrad, Basel to win (8/11) – While Ludogorets are certainly no slouches and won the home tie, Basel have an excellent home record in Europe. They’ve won six and lost just one at home in games played in UEFA competition since the beginning of last season, and look good at 8/11 here.

Long Shot – 84/1 (BetVictor)
- Sporting Lisbon v Schalke, score draw (15/4) – Both teams have had an eye for goal in this year’s competition. They are also closely matched, so both teams to score and a draw looks good at 18/5 with Bet Victor
- Adrian Ramos to score first (7/2) – Dortmund have looked great in the Champions League, despite poor league form. Adrian Ramos has lead the line well in the competition and at 7/2 to score first against Galatasaray, looks nice value.
- Lionel Messi to score first (31/10) – Messi’s Champions League scoring record is beyond ridiculous. Ajax have to stop him, Neymar and Suarez, and we fancy it’ll be Messi that breaks through first at 31/10.
