Before we return to the domestic action at the weekend there is the small matter of a host of international friendlies to play on Tuesday. Managers all around Europe will be trying out fringe players and new tactics, all in the hope of improving those small margins. - France to beat Ivory Coast (3/10) – France were not at their best against Sweden but they’ve got more than enough quality attacking options to make light work of the Ivory Coast at home.
- Iceland to beat Malta (1/6) – Iceland suffered a damaging defeat against Croatia on Saturday. They know how to bounce back from difficulties however and are firm favourites to do a professional job over Malta.
- Over 1.5 goals in England v Spain (4/11) – England will fancy their chances of a win against the odds when Spain visit Wembley. If Gareth Southgate is to get the top job with a win, England will need to score more than once in what could turn out to be a highly entertaining fixture.
Medium Risk – 17/1 (Sky Bet)
- Italy to beat Germany (7/4) – This is a great chance for Italy to get one over on the team who knocked them out of Euro 2016. Germany travel to Italy with an experimental squad and could find themselves on the end of a defeat.
- Serbia to beat Ukraine (2/1) – Serbia showed that they’ve got a deadly combination of high quality players and a never say die spirit when they snatched a crucial draw in Wales on Saturday night. They should now be fancied for a spot at the World Cup and can prove their class once more by beating Ukraine.
- Russia to beat Romania (6/5) – As World Cup hosts, Russia don’t have to qualify. On the one hand that relieves a lot of pressure but on the other, the lack of competitive football means it’ll be tough for them to be fully prepared. Expect them to take Tuesday’s game against Romania incredibly seriously.
Long Shot – 66/1 (Bet365)
- England and Spain to draw (9/4) – If England get something out of Tuesday’s game with Spain then Gareth Southgate will surely be appointed the national team manager. A win may be beyond the Three Lions but a draw is certainly not. Back the stalemate here at decent odds.
- Austria to beat Slovakia and under 2.5 goals (11/4) – Austria have not reached the levels expected of them by so many. They’ve got very talented individuals but cannot put it together as a team. After losing to Ireland, Austria will be keen to return to winning ways and can beat Slovakia in what will be a close encounter.
- Italy to beat Germany and both teams to score (9/2) – If Italy are to get a win over Germany, they are going to have to score more than once. This youthful Germany side will be full of attacking intent and can breach the home defence. However, they’ll find it tough to keep Italy at bay so the home side could win a cracker.
