This weekend – we’re including Monday because with Man City v Liverpool it’s definitely something to look forward to – includes the first really titanic clash between sides with realistic title aspirations. Saturday 23rd August 2014
- Chelsea v Leicester (5/4 with Betfair) – Backing BTTS is clearly an outside call here but Leicester showed good fight to draw 2-2 with Everton whilst Chelsea conceded on Monday to Burnley. Odds of 5/4 with Betfair are enough to tempt us in.
- Southampton v West Brom (3/4 with Ladbrokes) – Both sides confounded the critics with decent performances in their opening games and whilst the Saints went down 2-1 at Anfield they played well whilst the Baggies will feel a point at home to Sunderland was just about acceptable. That one finished 2-2 and we could see more of the same here, BTTS a fine choice at 3/4.
- Everton v Arsenal (2/3 with Ladbrokes) – Saturday’s biggest Premier League game sees Arsenal visit Everton and the Gunners will be out for revenge after the 3-0 mauling they received at Goodison back in April. They will find things tough but given both sides play nice passing, attacking football, betting on both teams to score appeals at odds of 2/3.

- Tottenham v QPR (evens with Ladbrokes) – This London derby is sure to be feisty as Harry Redknapp returns to a former club. Spurs will be tighter this term under Mauricio Pochettino, but at odds of evens backing both to score makes sense in a game where passions could spill over.
- Sunderland v Manchester United (4/5 with Bet365) – It was business as usual – well, business as per last season – for United as they lost at home on the opening day, getting what they deserved – nothing – from a poor performance that resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Swansea. Sunderland drew 2-2 with West Brom and we foresee plenty more goals here in a game both sides will feel they can win. United should welcome back Robin van Persie and they are undoubtedly better going forward than at the back but we fancy Steven Fletcher and co can cause United’s wobbly back three plenty of problems.
Monday 25th August 2014
- Manchester City v Liverpool (8/13 with Sky Bet) – This one is undoubtedly the biggest game of the season so far and whilst we are only in the second round of matches, it could ultimately have a huge say in where the Premier League crown ends up in May. Champions City host last season’s runners up, Liverpool, and if the games last season are anything to go by, prepare to be entertained. The Citizens should have too much for the Reds and we think they will win at a canter but the games ended 2-1 and 3-2 (both home wins) last term and BTTS looks the way to go again here.
