The football just keeps on coming in what is a hectic month, especially for the sides involved in European action who now enter the League Cup this week at the third round stage. There are some cracking ties on Tuesday and Wednesday, including no fewer than five all-Premier League clashes and we’ve analysed them all in order to put together three top football accas (all trebles). As usual we’ve got our low odds “Easy Winner”, our “Medium Risk” acca and the death-or-glory “Long Shot” so whatever your betting profile you should find a tasty accumulator to suit.
Easy Winner – 11/10 (Bet365)
- Chelsea to beat Bolton (1/5) – Chelsea can be ruthless at times and that’s what we expect here. Their second string should be far too good for a Bolton side that will be focussed on Championship survival and this is a nice easy start to our acca.
- Spurs to beat Nottingham Forest (1/2) – Some may fancy this is a banana skin for Spurs as they face a Forest side that tops the Championship with 17 points from seven games. However, whilst both sides may rest players, Spurs have the strength in depth to do so without jeopardising the result and 1/2 is huge despite Forest’s momentum.
- Man City to beat Sheffield Wednesday (1/6) – Our final David versus Goliath match sees Premier League City host Wednesday who are currently eighth in the Championship. As with the other ties, squad depth and home advantage make this a no-brainer.
Medium Risk – 14/1 (Coral)
- MK Dons to beat Bradford (20/23) – MK Dons should prove far too good for Bradford on home soil and at almost evens this is a nice addition to our second acca.
- Bournemouth to beat Cardiff (84/40) – Cardiff have recently parted ways with their manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left the club citing a difference in philosophy with the owner. Given that the Bluebirds have started life in the Championship poorly and are below their opponents here in the table (prior to the weekend games) we think an upset could be on the cards at very nice odds.
- Crystal Palace to beat Newcastle (8/5) – Newcastle are really struggling and Palace look great value on home soil here. Neil Warnock loves the cup competitions and has a habit of motivating his men very well for one-off games and we think they will progress here.
Long Shot – 183/1 (BetVictor)
- Southampton to beat Arsenal (21/4) – Arsenal will, as ever, give youth its chance in the League Cup and at long odds we think a buoyant Saints side can cash in and beat them here.
- Swansea to beat Everton (29/20) – Swansea have never beaten Everton. Ever. But we think history will be made here as both sides field much-changed teams. Everton will be focussing on the Europa League and the Premier League and with Swansea full of confidence we think they can get the win here.
- Middlesbrough to beat Liverpool (11/1) – At 11/1 this is clearly a major long shot but given how Liverpool have performed at Anfield this term we think it’s worth a go. Beaten by Villa and poor against minnows Ludogorets in the Champions League, the Reds look tame and, sure to put out a weak side here, we think Boro – who have won four of their last five away days – can punish them.
